Stewart Riegel

Stewart Lee Riegel was born and has lived his entire life, except for his time in military service, in Jackson County. He is the son of Robert L. Riegel and Ruth (Deemer) Riegel and was born on December 14th, 1928 on the family farm, located on the Beaver Pike. He attended Jackson schools and was graduated from Jackson High School in 1946.  After High School Stewart enlisted in the newly formed Air Force and spent the years of 1949-1952 on several airbases in the U.S and Guam during the Korean Conflict.  He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant and was  crew chief on a B-29 Superfortress, one of a very few airplanes which had been stripped and outfitted to carry a nuclear device.

Stewart returned to Jackson Co. after his military service was concluded and joined his father and brother in the day-to-day operations at Jackson Implement.  Jackson Implement began as an electrical and plumbing supply business in 1936 by his father Robert Riegel and soon after became affiliated with NAPA.  As they have since their founding, they continue to supply parts for all farm and domestic vehicles as well as many specialized services for the mining, logging and trucking industries in the area. Stewarts time at Jackson Implement began as an after school store sweeper when he was just eight and 80 years later he remains at the helm of one of Jackson Countys longest running business. He can be found there early each morning along with sister Mabel Poetker, son Mark and grandson Tyson Riegel where it is still a family run operation.

Stewart is the father of two children, Brenda Riegel Goodnough, and Mark Lee Riegel and also the father of four stepchildren and grandfather of eleven grandchildren. He has been married to Pat (Evans) Riegel for 40 years. Mr. Riegel has been a proud member of Jackson Rotary and  The Elks for over 60 years and has served on both the Jackson City and Jackson County Planning Commission for many years.

Stewart has had a ringside view of all Apple Festivals from the first one in 1937 to the present from his business located just behind the grandstand.  He has been a proud supporter of each Apple Festival since its inception and is honored to serve as this years Grand Marshall.
