History

For more than 7 Decades

The Saturday Night Parade holds many of the precious memories of the Jackson Apple Festival over the last fifteen years. Thanks to Budweiser, the distinguished Clydesdale Horses were an exciting fraction of the Apple Festival Grand Finale Parade twice in the early 1990s. A day that’ll continue to shine bright in the history of this Ohio festival is September 21, 2001, when the incredible Ohio State University Marching Band attended the Apple Festival as its first appearance in an Ohio festival. The band conducted a “halftime show” to the thrill of more than 80,000 audience – a number estimated to surpass the number of the 7000 dwellers in the town. The Jackson Apple Festival now has the habit of drawing tens of thousands of Apple lovers every Tuesday noon till Saturday night.

Apple-versary in

1957

As at its 20th apple-versary in 1957, the festival’s cheerleaders attempted to allure a larger audience with fresh ideas. In its early days, the opening Wednesday night parade was its largest festival parade, and Lick Local School snatched several of the awards. Moreover, Thursday was also a big deal in 1957 due to the creation of “Old Fashion Bargain’ Days.” The festival held the Shriner’s Day on Saturdays and closed the festival on Saturday night with its yearly Apple Festival Ball, commencing at 10 p.m.

The festival celebrated its 30th apple-versary with “The Apple Bowl” – a home football game between Jackson High School and county opponent, Wellston.

By 1977, Saturday became the most important day and the Saturday Night Parade also became the festival’s most prominent event until today.

In 2012, the Jackson Area Festivals and Events formed a corporation. On April 1, 2013, the Jackson Apple Festival evolved as a part of the Jackson Area Festivals and Events Corporation – a move that facilitates the stability and longevity of the festival.
